Having not just a beard, but the ability to grow a beard can be a hidden curse. With the ability to grow such facial plumage, there is an expectation to do so. Unbeknownst to most, growing a beard is exceptionally difficult. Beards itch. Beards get things stuck in them. Beards can often make the skin that they cover more difficult to clean and/or moisturize. Sometimes, beards just don't work with your look.
In spite of these difficulties, many brave souls still sport some serious facial hair for countless reasons.
At this moment, I count myself among those brave bearded men and women. Not because I like the look (I don't dislike beards in general, or even on me. It's just not what I'm going for right now,), nor is it because of the frigid winds that seem to delight in my misery, but in solidarity with someone I love. Until the day that my car, Heidi, is back together and running like a champ, my beard will go on.
