Comfort foods are my cure-all

I spent the vast majority of my day freezing off extremities and using the ones that remained to work on my car. From morning to well-passed sunset, my father and I worked side-by-side as we attempted to change the cylinder head on the 1989 Volkswagen Jetta that I affectionately call Heidi.

By the time we finished, my body was weary and my mind was weak. Nothing could possibly rectify my dreary situation, save for a good night's sleep...oh, and a good meal. Really, just the food would suffice.

Fortunately for me, as I entered the house I was greeted by a glass of wine, a cup of tea and a big, delicious dinner prepared by my mother. Everything was impeccable, from the bread crumb-encrusted pork chops to the Brussels sprouts, but nothing can possibly compare to the cloud-like mashed sweet potatoes that topped it all off. I love sweet potatoes, especially when they're mashed. Take the warm, soft, melt-in-your-mouth goodness of mashed potatoes, combine that with the exquisite sweetness of that oddly-shaped root and you've got the ultimate comfort food.

The list of things that couldn't be righted by a nice helping of mashed sweet potatoes is incredibly small.

These aren't the same ones that I ate. Photo courtesy of kinesiologists.ca
